Link #136 - Peace: “What it is, what it isn’t.”
Greetings in the name of Jesus.
Our Christmas season is up and running at Bloor Central. We really hope you will join in all the excitement!
First of all lets talk about the Christmas Kettle campaign. Along with all the other festivities this is an important time of year for us to be fund raising. Many of the programs associated with our Community Food Center rely on the funding we raise this month (including the food bank, community meal “7 ate 9”, Christmas Party etc). In order to meet all our budget commitments we hope to raise $35,000. As of yesterday (Thursday, December 14) we have raised $23,000 . Including today (Friday) we have seven days left to collect $12,000 to meet our target. We have had fantastic participation this year as many people have been offering to take a shift (3 hour commitment on the Kettle stand) at one of our four locations. We would appreciate if over the next 9 days you might be able to make time to take a shift (or two). Please contact Greg Peterson if you can join in (416 531 8031 - ex. 102).
This weekend we also have lots of activity around 789 Dovercourt. Saturday evening will be our last Community Meal (7 ate 9) for 2023. Please feel free to join us and share a meal between 4-6pm. Take note that there will not be any meals served on Saturday December 23, or Saturday December 30. The building will be closed for both those days.
This Sunday morning at SUNDAY WORD we will be focusing on an Advent theme that seems particularly significant as we consider the state of our world in 2023. “Peace: What it is and what it isn’t”. Karen is going to be sharing a wonderful Christmas message that reminds us that this time of year we really have something to celebrate.
We have something big on Sunday evening! It’s BLOORSTOCK, Sunday night at 6pm. This has turned into one of our traditions which always delivers. It is a night to celebrate Christmas music Bloor Central style. We’ll have caroling, musical items from members of our congregational family, fellowship - it really is a great evening. This is a good opportunity to invite friends who might not be familiar with the life of Bloor Central.
That is it for this weekend and we look forward to seeing you all the way through it.
Next week everyone at the building is going to be preparing for our "best Christmas party in the world” which takes place on Christmas Day. On December 25 we will open from 12pm-3pm with music, games, karaoke, photo booth and a full turkey dinner. It is a great way to spend Christmas and so if you don’t have plans make sure to be here! Even if you do have plans you need to make time to drop in to see us on the big day.
The last thing to mention is that we have posted all the bible lessons from the 12 Step series on our youtube channel. If you missed a Sunday or wanted a review the teaching is available to anyone who is interested. You might want to share this information that would benefit with some 12 Step work.
Blessings to all…
